Dinah Shore hosted this wonderful talk show with her usual flair of grace and class. Generous, soft spoken and the epitome of a Southern Belle, her guests were always charmed by her genuine interest in their lives. Having started out the 70's with Dinah's Place which usually featured one guest and was more of a home oriented show about cooking, crafts and occasionally music.

[show]Tony Clifton (alter ego of Andy Kaufman) verbally harassed Dinah Shore throughout the show. He pressured her into singing a duet with him even though she had a sore throat. Finally, during a cooking segment with Charles Nelson Reilly, Clifton pushed egg shells into Shore's hands,and flicked droplets of water at her,becoming extremely loud and abrasive. The show quickly cut to a commercial and Clifton/Kaufman was escorted out of the studio. The tape of the incident was destroyed.Kaufman later called Shore and apologized for the incident, which she accepted graciously. Later,false rumors began to circulate that Clifton had poured a pan of egg yolks over Shore's head.
[hide] - According to 'Andy Kaufman''s writing partner Bob Zmuda,Kaufman got so drunk on his way to the taping that he forgot to wear his sunglasses to complete his Tony Clifton disguise.
