FACT: The subplot involving the return of Rita's abusive husband, Paul, is not realistic. When he picked up the children from school without her consent, Dexter acted like there was nothing she could do when, in fact, her restraining order (mentioned in a previous episode) should have granted her custody and defined his visitation/parenting-time rights. Rita could have reported Paul for custodial interference, which is a crime. Contacting her likely also violated the terms of his probation, and she could have reported this to his probation officer. Finally, her comment to Dexter that she couldn't get divorced until Paul signed the divorce papers is inaccurate. Most state laws provide for a "default divorce" where a divorce can become final if the other side does not contest the case by filing documents in court.
