Desperate Housewives

Gabrielle Solis (née Marquez, previously Lang) is vain, shallow, and materialistic, but underneath she is thoughtful, caring, and loves her friends dearly and will always help in a crisis. She tends to be reckless and acts first then thinks later, often thinking of herself before others, but regretting it later and making amends. She is very attractive and has the ability to wrap men around her little finger.

Early Life

Childhood
Gabrielle Marquez was born into a small town in Mexico, where her family was very poor. When she was five, her father was diagnosed with cancer, from which he died. As 15 years old, she was sexually assaulted by her stepfather, Alejandro, and left home the next day. Her mother blamed her, thinking she was jealous. 5 years later, she seduced a fashion photographer and became a model.

Season One

Affair with John
Gaby is having an affair with her teenage gardener, John Rowland that treats her with love, unlike Carlos who is never there. Carlos suspected and asked his mother, Juanita, to visit and keep an eye on Gaby. Juanita photographs Gabrielle with John. John chases her for the camera but she got hit by a car driven by Andrew and slips into a coma. Gabrielle disposes of the camera but is forced to confess to John's mother, Helen, about the affair.

Gabrielle learns that she is pregnant, as a result of Carlos swapping her birth control pills with sugar pills. She blackmails him into taking care of the baby in return for her testimony at his trial for gay hate crimes. John tells Carlos that he could be the father of baby. In a fit of rage, Carlos goes after John, and is convicted for the hate crimes.

Season Two

Desperate for a child
Carlos is in jail and unwilling to forgive the affair, but he does. Gabrielle loses the baby after falling down the stairs while running away from Caleb. After Carlos is released, he and Gabrielle try for another baby, but discover she cannot get pregnant.

When with no success, they tried to adopt pole-dancer Libby's daughter, they ask their maid, Xiao-Mei, to be their surrogate. Xiao-Mei gets pregnant but Gaby finds out that she and Carlos are having an affair. She kicks him out but tells Xiao Mei that she is staying with her until the baby is born.

Season Three

Divorce
Xiao-Mei's baby is born on Orson and Bree's wedding. But the baby is black. The doctor admits that the wrong embryo was transferred & Carlos and Gaby divorce.

Free
Gabrielle changed her last name back to Marquez. She decided to go back to modeling but she was now too old. She first dated the father of one of the pageant girls, and her stalker, Zach Young. Later she met mayoral candidate Victor Lang and they married, but only because she would be good for the "Latino vote". Gaby went to Carlos (who is dating Edie) for comfort.

Season Four

Affair with Carlos
Gaby and Carlos planned to escape when Edie staged a suicide attempt. Carlos felt that he couldn't leave her, but he continued the affair. Edie hired a private detective and showed the photos to Victor. He took Gaby out on a boat trip, she assumed he was going to murder her, so she hit him with an oar and called Carlos for help. They fought Victor & he fell overboard, presumed dead. He was found later, claiming to have amnesia to everyone but Gaby. After threats she decided to leave town with Carlos, but Victor was killed during the tornado. In the aftermath Gaby and blinded Carlos remarried.

Five Year Jump
Gaby’s life has changed dramatically. She became pregnant twice, gained some weight and taken on responsibilities that her blind husband cannot assist her with. She is broke and ill-adjusted to her new life.

Season Five

Desperate Measures
At the nightclub fire, Carlos sustained a head injury, but his sight can be corrected. Now Gaby fears that Carlos will no longer find her attractive.
On regaining his sight, Carlos returns to work and their finances return to normal. Gaby gets jealous when Carlos hires his ex girlfriend, Lucy, as his right hand lady in the company. She gets Lynette a job so she can spy on them, but Carlos decides to let Lucy go. In season finale, Gaby agrees to take in Carlos's teen niece, Ana.

Season Six

Trouble with Ana
Ana test Gaby's patience, but Gaby sees herself in her and signs the paperwork officially becoming Ana's legal guardian. When John Rowland returns Ana begins to fall for him. John kisses Gaby just as Ana walks in. She confesses her past affair to Ana, and declares her love for Carlos. Gaby sends John a photo strip of them, torn right down the middle.

Fight with Lynette
When Gabrielle finds out Lynette is pregnant, she's angered her friend kept this secret rather than risk her job. She does try to make peace but when Lynette sues Carlos, she angrily rejects their friendship.
