Aimed at a teenage audience, it is semi-autobiographical, based on the small-town childhood of its creator Kevin Williamson. The lead character, Dawson Leery, shares Williamson's interests and background. The show was set in a small fictional seaside town called Capeside and focused on four friends who were in the early part of their Sophomore year of high school when the series began.

More Trivia
  • The video Dawson supposedly made in 1998 which Pacey shows to a bed-ridden Jen during the series finale was the original credit sequence for the show.
  • Although they both have important roles throughout the course of the series, Meredith Monroe and Busy Philipps never appear in a single episode together.
  • Most of the artists/songs featured in the two-part series finale, were songs that were intended to be featured in the original pilot, but whose licensing proved too expensive at the time.
