6 Reasons Dancing May Have Lost Its Step (TVGuide) - 1 day ago

Dancing With The Stars - Samantha Harris, Tom Bergeron | Photo Credits: Bob D'Amico/ABC

Donny Osmond may have claimed Dancing with the Stars' Season 9 Mirrorball trophy, but it's not all's well that ends well for the once-robust ABC hit. Though its season finale scored a season-high 19.2 million viewers, it was the show's lowest-watched finale since the first-season coronation of Kelly Monaco, which aired during the slower summer months. Why might audience interest have flagged this season? We have a few ideas.

Did you miss any moment of Dancing with the Stars? Maybe you want to go back and judge Whitney Houston's performances again? ABC tried their best to squeeze in as much as they could for two hours that you may not have caught the actual dancing between Kelly, Mya, and Donny. Here's part one:

Ratings: Dancing Hits Season-High Numbers, Leads ABC to Win (TVGuide) - 7 days ago

Dancing with the Stars | Photo Credits: Adam Larkey/ABC

The two-hour Dancing with the Stars finale brought in its biggest audience of the season, helping ABC edge out CBS in the ratings Tuesday night.

An average of 19.2 million viewers tuned in to see Donny Osmond claim the Mirrorball trophy for Dancing's ninth season. Dancing also claimed its highest rating in the 18-to-49 demographic. V, which kicked off the night for ABC, held steady compared to its week-earlier numbers with 9.3 million viewers.

CBS still had a strong showing, anchored as usual by NCIS, the night's most-watched show with 20.2 million viewers...

Review: Dancing with the Stars - Performance 10 Results (Season Finale) (TVSquad) - 8 days ago
The final three are excited that they finished the group megamix.
(S09E21) Dancing with the Stars is down to three finalists, two hours, and one winner. We re-welcome the thirteen eliminated celebrities. Donny & Kym, Mya & Dmitry, and Kelly & Louis emerge from the other side of the stage and run past the eliminated contestants. Louis got a lot of butt slaps; he giggles and continues walking.

We get a recap of last night, ad in the middle of the recap we have the back of Miss Piggy's head. Was that the spaghetti cat of DWTS? The recap played again right after a commercial break.

The best part of the night wasn't the results, it was Miss Piggy laying the smackdown on Samantha Harris.

Dancing's Maks Predicts Donny for the Win, Says Dmitry "Dropped the Ball" (TVGuide) - 8 days ago

Maksim Chmerkovskiy | Photo Credits: Craig Sjodin/ABC

Hi everyone,

Thanks again for your comments. Let's get right down to it, shall we?

I've gotten a lot of reactions about my tweet last night about Mya and Dmitry's paso doble looking similar to mine and Mel's. There is no way I'm going to get out of this sounding like an angel, but that dance was copied. I'm flattered, but contrary to what people think, I am not upset about it and don't look it in a negative light. It was a fantastic dance and I didn't say anything derogatory about it. Mel called me yesterday and I got messages from thousands of people on Twitter about it. Mel loved it! We both loved it! They did their thing. I was like, "Bam! Awesome!" Mya's an incredible dancer and it was a well-deserved 30. To my and Mel's supporters who are mad, don't take it personally. To everybody who's mad about my tweet and think ...

Recap: Dancing with the Stars - Performance 10 (TVSquad) - 9 days ago
Mya hopes her Paso Doble can win her over.(S09E20) It's the finals of Dancing with the Stars and the trophy was placed in front of the judge's table. Tom announces that three couples have three new dances; technically Mya was part of Team Paso Doble in week seven.

The second round was the megamix, and I would rather have them return to the group dance-off format. The three couples dancing at the same time was too much to handle. I missed individuality.

I was very disappointed with the Freestyle round. There's free reign and it didn't seem like anyone even took it. I was expecting Kelly to rock out and Mya to pull off a tasteful hip-hop piece. Alas, I got neither.

Dancing's Maks Says the Pressure's on Donny, Wants a Radio Show (TVGuide) - 9 days ago

Maksim Chmerkovskiy | Photo Credits: Craig Sjodin/ABC

Hi everyone,

Thanks again for all of your comments. It's been such a long season. Can you believe it's the finals now?

From what I see, what I know and what the little birdie told me, the pressure is all on Donny. I was saying all along — and I think everyone has been saying all along — that this guy is going to be in the finals. He's in the finals now, but what is he going do? Kym has been in the finale before and I think she is going to try to outdo herself and will pull out some things for the freestyle.

It's kind of been a theme of this show that the freestyle wins the competition. I don't know what it is about it. There's where Gilles lost it last season. I don't know what happened with Mel and me. I've never heard a negative comment about our freestyle — even the judges liked it. It was hip-hoppy but we did get a perfect score, so I don't know. Still, it's been a ...

Dancing's Final Three: Who Will Win? (TVGuide) - 10 days ago

Dancing with the Stars - Mya, Donny Osmond, Kelly Osbourne | Photo Credits: Adam Larkey/ABC

After getting dethroned for a few weeks from our Dancing with the Stars power rankings, Mya has reclaimed the top spot with 43 percent of TVGuide.com users' votes. Perhaps it's a sign of good things to come as she heads into Monday's Season 9 finale to vie for the coveted Mirrorball trophy — but you can't count out her competition, Mr. Personality Donny Osmond and the Dancing Cinderella story of the season, Kelly Osbourne.

Dancing's Maks: I'm Very Happy for Kelly (TVGuide) - 13 days ago

Maksim Chmerkovskiy | Photo Credits: Craig Sjodin/ABC

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your comments again. I've been busy the last couple days, so I haven't been able to write, but there's a lot to cover now.

I'm a little upset Joanna's out, but it's the nature of the show. People vote for their favorite to stay in. I am happy for Kelly. I think Kelly had a huge comeback week. Huge! She was kind of losing steam and she came back with a vengeance. I'm not going to say her dances were the dances of the night - clearly they weren't - but I think it was a very big step for herself. I'm not sure if I loved her rumba, but it was cool to see Kelly do something that she would probably never do in her life. There are certain dances that she looks ...

The final four of Dancing with the Stars
(S09E19) It's been nine weeks on Dancing with the Stars and I didn't expect to see Joanna, Kelly, or Donny around this long. Unfortunately, one of them was eliminated.

For no reason, Melissa Rycroft showed up on this results show and slipped in the professional's performance. This was probably because her fans caused an uproar since she wasn't a candidate for the Design A Dance competition. Instead of "Sabrina was robbed" we got "Melissa was robbed," and ABC listened.

It was a busy show, but the elimination was not a shocker to me. By this point, fan support outweighs the judges scores.

Recap: Dancing with the Stars - Performance #9 (TVSquad) - 2 weeks ago
Joanna and Derek dance(S9E18) For the first time in Dancing with the Stars history, the semifinalists have to dance three dances. Fortunately, their third dance was the dance-off they've been practicing for weeks. For the Latin dances, each of the contestants have to do a solo.

With next week being the finals, all the contestants are stressed and more emotional than normal. There were a lot of tears being held tonight.

As the contestants walked down, I couldn't help but gawk at how beautiful Kym Johnson looked in her tango costume. Unfortunately for her, it will probably lead to her and Donny's downfall.

Dancing's Maks: It Was "Pretty Obvious" Aaron's Time Was Winding Down (TVGuide) - 2 weeks ago

Maksim Chmerkovskiy | Photo Credits: Craig Sjodin/ABC

Hi everyone,

Hope you had a great weekend! Are you all ready for the semis?

It's unfortunate Aaron left last week since he was a good dancer, but also, it's a shame for them to get eliminated after scoring that high and to know there's not a big fan following. I think it goes to show it's all about the votes. It is what it is. I personally think they knew they were going to go. It was pretty obvious when you get sent to a dance-off with two 10s that your time may not last too much longer. But stranger things have happened. He was one of the better dancers, but I guess not one of the ...

A day after securing a spot in the Dancing with the Stars semifinals, Kelly Osbourne's joy turned into "devastation" when she got word that her mom Sharon's Pomeranian, Mr. Bo, died. Review: Dancing with the Stars - Performance 8 Results (TVSquad) - 3 weeks ago
Dancing with the Stars' final five
(S09E17) Dancing with the Stars continues to chug along having five couples become four. With such a small number, the results shows feel even more stretched out, slowly saving contestants one at a time.

Encore - Joanna & Derek - Paso Doble - Len thought that even though Mya had the higher score, the paso was so detailed that it deserved the encore. The two actually looked better with their hair tonight than last night; I could tell that it was them. On the second time around, I believed that they deserved a 30 and Mya only should have gotten a 29.

Dancing's Maks: Judges Were A Lot Better (TVGuide) - 3 weeks ago

Maksim Chmerkovskiy | Photo Credits: Craig Sjodin/ABC

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your comments again.

First, I want to close the chapter on the judges before getting into the dances. I felt like they were better Monday night and did not have the "insanity bug." I applaud them for sticking to the job requirements and giving some constructive criticism. Bruno is still heavily auditioning for something, but it was a lot better. I'm fine with all the gimmicks if there's a right balance with what they're supposed to do. The only thing that I don't understand is that Carrie Ann has shows where she does not point out one mishap everyone sees and then has shows where she points out the tiniest things that nobody sees, like what she did with Joanna in her paso doble. This is when you feel like she wasn't ready to give a 10. But overall, I thought their marks were OK and their comments were more productive and helpful. The funny thing is, I was backstage with a bunch of people and ...

Recap: Dancing with the Stars - Performance 8 (TVSquad) - 3 weeks ago
Joanna & Derek's paso doble.(S09E16) Dancing with the Stars is only two weeks away from the finals. With only five contestants left, each have to perform two dances to ensure that we fit the two hour block.

The two dances consist of one ballroom and one Latin routine. The biggest flaw with having two dances was that everyone spent all their time making sure that the Latin dance was amazing, and their ballroom dances felt lazy.

I'm shocked to see the seven paddle still around with only five contestants left. This season's quality level was nowhere near Shawn Johnson, Gilles Marini, and Melissa Rycroft last season.

Dancing's Maks Hopes Judges Won't Have "Insanity Bug" This Week (TVGuide) - 3 weeks ago

Hi everyone,

I hope you had a great weekend. Thank you for all of your comments last week! It was great to see your responses. Honestly, I'm so tired of superficial stuff and I felt like I needed to say what was on my mind and I'm glad I did.

The whole situation reminds me of ESPN or a sports network. They're amazing, but there are so many people that are talking generically. You watch a game and the "analysts" are like: "Well, if the quarterback would throw the ball more accurately, then they would have better success at catching it." OK, really? Thanks for telling me that. This kind of stuff they do a lot and once in a while you get somebody who can actually formulate thoughts and actually talk about honestly and intellectually ...
