CSI: New York - 03x06 Open and Shut
Summary: A young hotel concierge falls to her death from a balcony and is impaled on a statue shortly after an ugly incident with a popular model participating in a rooftop photo shoot. While Mac and Stella investigate the case, they hear gunshots coming from a nearby building and discover the shots came from a penthouse loft. When they enter, they find a woman standing over two dead bodies, one of them her husband. The woman claims the other victim was beating her husband, so she shot the man.

Episode Quotes

Detective Stella Bonasera: [to Grace Thomason] Framing a man with known mental problems, very imaginative. But then, you're a therapist. You'd know who to pick.
Mandi Foster: Why do you guys keep harassing me?
Detective Don Flack: We tend to do that when we think someone's guilty of murder.
Detective Mac Taylor: You got anything on the railing?
Adam Ross: That's a joke, right?
Detective Mac Taylor: Call it wishful thinking.
Adam Ross: Huh, it's got more trace on it than a public restroom. Actually I have no idea what I'm looking for here.
Detective Mac Taylor: Sometimes you don't know what you're looking for until you find it. [a tech hands him a folder] Thank you. [He opens it] Our photographer's prints didn't match the print we found on the vic. We got a hit on someone else. See if you can put her on the railing.
Adam Ross: [Reads the folder] Mandi Foster? Oh, oh, I love Mandi Foster. [Mac smiles and leaves]

Mistakes/Goofs

  • Goof (revealing mistake): Sara Jackson's body was found on the sculpture in middle of the atrium, at least 6 feet from the wall. Since she was hanging from her killer's arm by the railing, she should have fallen straight down and missed the sculpture.

Trivia

  • The Cartier bracelet the victim was wearing is a part of the Love Collection, and was created in the 1970s, and which Cartier continues to make. It is put on and taken off with a special screwdriver that the person giving the bracelet keeps. The Love Collection is one of Cartier's most famous collections.
  • The model's story of throwing an iPod at her assistant's head sounds like a play on real-life supermodel Naomi Campbell, who was arrested for throwing a cell phone at the head of one of her employees.
  • This episode very closely parallels the murder case of Mark Winger convicted of murdering Roger Harrington and his wife Donnah in August of 1995 in St. Louis MO with the roles reversed. The Forensic Files episode aired August 7th 2003 titled "A Welcome Intrusion" covered this case.
