John Alvarez is a Latino with a degree from Harvard Law School but he never forgets his working-class roots. He believes the law should protect the "Little Guy" from the major corporations that are employers key clients. He is starting an affair with fellow attorney Nancy Slaton, against his employers mores. John wears his hair long and plays guitar his barber father(Luis) views him as a hippie.
