Roy Mobey is the redneck long-time sheriff of Clinton Corners, Georgia, who has assigned a college-educated, New York City-trained black sergeant named Curtis Baker as his second-in-command. Despite differences in race, culture and education, the two men are able to work together in relative harmony. Other officers were Jasper, Cloris and Harley, while Burnside was the town's weak-willed mayor.
