The show's live action main title was designed and produced by I Square Communications and starred Dorian Borag as "Kevin" and Louie from Critters of the Cinema as "Duke," the dog.
The episode How's Bayou has two different versions. The original version aired on September 16, 1989 and never again. It had a lot of unfinished/raw animation, different music/dialogue/scenes/etc., and a lot of other little differences. The "finished" version aired all subsequent times. Strangely, the DVD includes the rare, first version, and not the later better-known version.
The series was released on DVD on February 27, 2007. It includes all 13 episodes of season one, and 13 of the 14 episodes from season two (only the When Mother Brain Rules clip show is omitted.) Season three is not included as licensing issues mean it is a separate series.
In a strange twist of fate, Ian James Corlett, who voiced Dr. Wily on this show, would voice his nemesis Mega Man in the Mega Man animated series (1994.)
Michael Maurer, who wrote many of the Season Two episodes, is the brother of Jeffrey Scott, who wrote all of Season One.
For the most part the episodes can be viewed in any order, but there are some exceptions here and there: -Kevin In Videoland must happen first, as it explain's Kevin being sucked into Videoland. -Videolympics/Mega Trouble For Megaland takes place BEFORE Happy Birthday Megaman. This is because the former episode is Kevin's first time meeting Dr. Right. -Mr. And Mrs. Mother Brain is the first episode to happen on Castlevania, identifiable by Kevin's "first glance" reaction of the castle. -Gameboy (the episode) happens after Season One but before all other Season Two episodes (identifiable by Gameboy being in all other Season Two episodes.) -Quest for the Potion of Power is the first Link/Zelda episode, as Kevin meets the two of them for the first time here.
The working title of the show was "Captain Nintendo - The Game Master", and the working title for the pilot episode was "Kevin in Nintendoland." This had to be changed, as the network didn't want the word Nintendo in the title - they felt that would be blatant advertising.
While Metroid is the name of Mother Brain's lair in this cartoon, in the NES game, it is the name of an artificial life form that bounty hunter Samus Aran was commissioned to destroy.
Alessandro Juliani was the youngest member of the primary voice cast. He was only 11 years old when he provided the voice of Kid Icarus.
Two of the voice actors both went on to appear in "Friday the 13th" films. Gary Chalk (King Hippo) appeared in Freddy vs. Jason (2003) and Jonathan Potts (I) appeared in Jason X (2001).
Andrew Kavadas, who voiced vampire hunter Simon Belmont in this series, would go on to play the father of a Vampire in Underworld: Evolution (2006).
Northridge, the California town that Kevin comes from, actually exists. However, the school he supposedly attends, Northridge High School, does not.
One boxing promotional poster lists former U.S. Vice-President Spiro Agnew (misspelled as Spir Agne) as a participant.
This episode is 102B in production order, the reason for this production code is because there was a change in animation studio.
