Gil Gerard's waist line flexed daily, and weekly. Gil was warned by Bruce Lansbury about feasting on the company's "open all day" craft service buffet. Buck's white skin tight fitting jump suit plagued Al Lehman (costumer) when Lansbury asked if wardrobe could make Gil "slimmer". Al Lehman gave Gil a nick name "the white polish sausage".

After the premiere of the series, MCA-Universal was threatened with a law suit should game props or weapons have any similarity established by the "Star Wars" futuristic design domain. Fred Silverman, NBC's program chief, demanded weaponry and game board prop magic occur in each show. "S new Chess game! a new board game!" Art Directors, with these orders and script descriptions, imagined and designed game board props to motivate actors in their scenes. After initiating construction on the set dressing action prop, the producers would cancel the work on the prop because of Universal legal department's concern. Fearing the show's weapons would be copied, matched, for the 1979 Christmas toy season, "Buck's" art department had to re-design all the hand laser zapper weapon props for shows airing after the 1st of December, 1979, preventing the toy industry from manufacturing products which would look like "Buck's" hand held laser weapons.
