Episode Quotes

Walter H. White: Fuck you! And your eyebrows! [knocks air fresheners off shelf] [grabs crotch] Wipe down this!
Jesse Pinkman: Hey, what'd you do to them.
Walter H. White: Red phosphorus in the presence of moisture and accelerated by heat yields phosphorus hydride. Phosphine gas. One good wiff, and phewf... [pukes]
Walter H. White: I am... awake

Mistakes/Goofs

  • Goof (miscellaneous): The names (in the opening credits) contain capitalized letter(s) shown in a different color, referring to the chemical symbols of elements of the periodic table of the elements. In the opening credits of the first two seasons, one of them mistakenly implies that Ch is an element. This mistake is corrected in the following seasons.
  • Goof (factual errors): Walt accompanies Hank and Gomez on a bust but civilians are not allowed into DEA vehicles by law. (It is possible that Hank knowingly broke the rule.)
  • Goof (continuity error): There are several instances where the seasons change from one scene to the next. In particular, Walt walks into his school and there are no leaves on the trees; when he walks out a short time later, the trees are fully green.
  • Goof (factual errors): A 5000 ml. round bottom boiling flask is neither super expensive or hard to come by. Anyone can order glassware, especially if they have a job like a chemistry teacher.

Trivia

  • The school Walter teaches at was filmed in Rio Rancho High School in Rio Rancho, NM, a suburb of Albuquerque. Minor alterations to the school were made such as replacing the whiteboards in the classrooms with blackboards and the use of attendance bells.
  • The show was originally planned to take place in Riverside, CA, but was moved to New Mexico because the state offered an attractive tax rebate on production.
  • A professor at the University of Southern California gave Bryan Cranston lessons in chemistry basics for the series. So Cranston was able to correct some writer's mistakes. An actual DEA agent showed the crew and the cast how to make crystal meth.
  • A plaque on the wall of Walt's home says he did research in proton radiography in 1985 that contributed to someone's Nobel Prize win. The winners of the 1985 Nobel Prize for Chemistry were Herbert Hauptman and Jerome Karle who won for their development of methods to determine crystal structures.
  • Bryan Cranston sat in on numerous classroom sessions at Rio Rancho High School to develop his character.
