Summary: Founding Crane, Poole & Schmidt partner Shirley Schmidt (Candice Bergen) returns to the firm to help bring order to the chaotic office. The firebrand Schmidt proves to be a formidable adversary to Alan Shore, and gets under the skin of Denny Crane, with whom she has a checkered history. Meanwhile, Lori represents a Sudanese native who sues the U.S. government for lack of action in the face of the horrific atrocities being committed in his country, and Alan Shore defends a man who killed his mother in a fit of rage, hitting her over the head with a skillet.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

MISC: The judge in one of the trials is named "O'Keefe", however the nameplate on the judge's bench in court is spelled "O'Keffe" incorrectly. The cast listing spells the judge's name properly.
CHAR: (episode #1.11), Alan checks Bernard's mother's pulse with his thumb. Under some circumstances it's possible to feel your own pulse with your thumb, so he should have used his fingers.
CONT: (1.11), at the end of the scene where Bernard and Alan watch Bernard's mother on the kitchen floor, for one cut Alan jumps back from his crouched position to standing at Bernard's side where he was previously in the scene.
