Benny Hill performed in mostly short sketches (portraying a leering, lecherous, never successful, yet charming protagonist), He showed his versatility as an actor by appearing in vastly different costumes as well as in female character. Some critics accused him of sexism, but he pointed out that the female characters were all intelligent & with dignity, while the men chasing them were buffoons.
