Summary: Bruce Wayne wakes up to find his dearest wish has come true: his parents are not dead, and he is not and has never been Batman. Not only that, but he's engaged to Selina Kyle. At first he's ecstatic, but a number of clues force him to the conclusion that somehow this is all an elaborate charade. His quest to find the truth eventually pits Bruce against Batman in a surreal battle atop a church tower. Batman is unmasked and revealed to be the Mad Hatter, who has put Bruce in a forced dream state. Bruce's only way to wake up is to throw himself from the tower, which he does -- and returns to his life as the Dark Knight.

MISTAKES/GOOFS

CONT: When he throws the hook to climb to the tower, the end is caught in the gargoyle, however, when he gets up to the tower, we see the end being caught on the tower ledge.

TRIVIA

At the end of "Beware the Grey Ghost", there is a poster of People Magazine. On the top of the poster there is a box that says "Matt Hagan: Man of a Million Faces". Matt Hagan becomes the villian, Clayface, (appears in Feat of Clay parts 1 and 2) who can change his physical appearence (as well as create objects such as axes or hammers from his hands). The People Magazine is dated October 19, 1992 which was the air date of the episode "Perchance to Dream". Additionally, the shadow of The Grey Ghost is Batman's shadow.
The line "Yes, the stuff that dreams are made of" is a reference to the Humphrey Bogart film The Maltese Falcon (1941).
On the DVD commentary to Batman: Gotham Knight, Kevin Conroy (I) said that this was one of his favorite episodes.
The title of this episode was taken from a famous quote from William Shakespeare's Hamlet.
