Episode Quotes

Aang: [In a burned forest] Why would anyone do this? How could I let this happen?
Katara: Aang, you didn't let this happen. It has nothing to do with you.
Aang: Yes it does! It's the Avatar's job to protect nature. But I don't know how to do my job.
Aang: [about Roku] There's a temple on a crescent shaped island. And if I go there on the solstice, I'll be able to speak with him.
Katara: But the solstice is tomorrow.
Aang: Yeah, and there's one more problem, the island is in the Fire Nation.
Katara: Hey, Aang. You ready to be cheered up?
Aang: No. [Katara throws an acorn at his head] Ow! How is that cheering me up?
Sokka: [snickers] Cheered me up! [Katara throws another acorn at Sokka] Ow! Yeah, I probably deserved that.

Mistakes/Goofs

  • Goof (incorrectly regarded as a mistake): At the very end of this episode we can see a crescent moon. However, in the end of the next episode, which happens only a day later, the moon is full. Of course, on the real Earth such a quick change is impossible, but this is only one of many curiosities of the fictional world of Avatar, where a lot of physically and astronomically impossible things occur. In fact, such a quick change in moon phases is possible even in our reality, if the moon is close enough to the planet. For example, the Martian moon Phobos goes through the full phase cycle in about 20 hours.

Trivia

  • The black and white hei-bái spirit in this episode is aptly named because "hei" is the Chinese word for black and "bái" is white.
