In the comics, Green Arrow often had a sidekick named Speedy, who in turn became the subject of a fairly controversial run of the book when he was revealed to have a drug addiction. In the TV show, Queen's sister has the nickname Speedy (to her brother at least) and is shown to be an occasional drug user. She would later meet Roy Harper, who in the comics was the original Speedy. In addition there was also a second Speedy in the comics who much like Thea Queen was also a girl.
