• During this episode, the Bluths are on the Atkins diet, but go off of it after George Sr's heart attack. At the end, they gorge on high-carb foods. On the set, a bucket was set up where the actors would spit out the food so they wouldn't take in the carbs. David Cross, who didn't use the bucket, noted the irony that although the characters saw through the hype of the fad diet, the actors playing those characters had not. However, actors often use spit buckets for scenes in which they must eat a lot of food to avoid making themselves sick doing multiple takes.
• Alessandra Torresani plays George Michael's girlfriend Ann, and her brief performance was singled out for praise by the rest of the cast on the DVD commentary for the episode. By Season 2, however, Ann was played by the very different-looking Mae Whitman. This casting change is possibly a joke, since Michael repeatedly forgets what Ann looks like, and Maeby jealously calls her "No Face".
• The episode's title is a reference to the quote "Let Them Eat Cake" by Marie-Antoinette.
• When the narrator refers to the history of Tobias' "The Man Inside Me" book, a brief clip of the book on www.amazon.com is shown. Below the book cover, the website reads, "Customers who bought 'The Man Inside Me' also bought: Families with Low Self-Esteem by Tobias Funke (Author), Caged Wisdom by George Bluth, The Low-Carb, Gay, Bisexual, Trans-gender Diet by BJ Zuckercorn (Author)." Two of the works were introduced to the show, except the one by Barry Zuckercorn (played by Henry Winkler), who occasionally exhibits homosexual tendencies.
