BIOGRAPHY:

Fetching, glamorous blonde British actress Victoria Tennant has a compelling "English Rose" essence about her. She possesses beauty, charm and intelligence in all her pictures, and certainly has shown the requisite pedigree to make a strong dent in the world of entertainment. Able to play warm romantics or femme fatales with equal ease, she is always an anticipated joy whether on stage, film or TV.

Born in London on September 30, 1950, Victoria is the daughter of high-profile talent agent Cecil Tennant (her godfather was none other than Laurence Olivier, who was one of Cecil's clients at the time). Her mother was noted prima ballerina Irina Baronova, a Russian émigré. Her parents were happily married until Cecil's sudden death in a car accident in 1967. Greatly influenced by her mother, Victoria trained in ballet before studying at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. She entered films with a co-starring role in the "kitchen sink" drama The Ragman's Daughter (1972), but the film did not make enough of an impression to propel her film career, so she focused on British plays.

It wasn't until she arrived in Hollywood a decade later that she started to make noticeable strides. She was a divorcée when she married writer/director Matthew Chapman (I) in 1978, appearing in his quirky little movie Strangers Kiss (1983), in which she played a 1950s "B" actress. That same year she won critical acclaim and a Golden Globe nomination for her role as Robert Mitchum's vis-a-vis, Pamela Tudsbury, in the epic TV miniseries "The Winds of War" (1983), repeating the role in the sequel "War and Remembrance" (1988).

Along with this upward career shift, however, came personal problems, and she divorced Chapman after only four years. She eventually wed star comedian Steve Martin (I), whom she met while on the set of the comedy All of Me (1984). Thrust firmly into the limelight now with this highly visible partnership, Victoria forged ahead offering her trademark class and sophistication and occasionally even some nudity in such modest film thrillers as The Holcroft Covenant (1985) starring Michael Caine (I), Best Seller (1987) with James Woods (I), Whispers (1990) with Chris Sarandon (I) and Flowers in the Attic (1987) as Louise Fletcher's tormented daughter. She reunited with husband Martin with the terrific L.A. Story (1991), but was slightly overshadowed by the on-camera sparkle created by Martin and the wonderfully fizzy Sarah Jessica Parker. The Martins' marriage fell apart shortly after this.

Continuing on, she had minor roles in Edie & Pen (1996), in which she made her debut as a writer/co-producer, and Legend of the Mummy (1997) as her career began focusing elsewhere. Shifting more towards stage work in recent years, she has appeared throughout the U.S. in such productions as "Misalliance," "The Taming of the Shrew," "Doubt" and "Love Letters", among others. She appeared briefly in actor/producer (and fourth husband) Kirk Stambler's TV movie Sister Mary Explains It All (2001) (TV), and also served as its executive producer. Mr. Stambler provides legal counsel for special projects and for business and acquisitions at Warner Brothers Studio. The couple are also producing partners. The lovely Victoria's TV guest appearances of late have included "Diagnosis: Murder," "JAG,", "Providence," "Scrubs," "Monk" and "The Beast". Recently she appeared in the romantic film dramedy Irene in Time (2009).
