- In 1962, he graduated from West Mifflin North High School, eight years earlier than that school's most famous showbiz graduate, actor 'Jeff Goldblum' (qv).
- Learned burlesque comedy from the source: sneaking into Pittsburgh's Casino Burlesque Theater although under the age limit.
- After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh in 1966, Tom spent a year as a graduate student studying film production for education. In 1967 (Vietnam era) he enlisted in the US Air Force. Originally trained as a radar intercept controller, he later qualified as a computer programmer, and was involved with several classified cold war operations.
- Holds a Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument and Multi-Engine ratings.
- Spent 35 years as a computer software engineer before moving to the entertainment business. Co-holder of US Patent #4024504 for unique features of a minicomputer operating system.
- His eighth grade English teacher in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, was Harriet Joan (Kelly) Radvansky, eldest sister of dancer 'Gene Kelly (I)' (qv). Tom says, "Picture Gene Kelly with shoulder-length hair and you have all you need to know. They were like twins."
