In 1985 he was ordained as a Church of England minister and alternated acting with church duties.
Tenniel recommended his friend, 'Jon Pertwee' (qv), to audition for the role of _"Doctor Who" (1963)_ (qv) on the BBC.
Father of 'Matthew Evans (III)' (qv) and 'Serena Evans' (qv), husband of 'Evangeline Banks' (qv) and son-in-law of the actor 'Leslie Banks' (qv).
Filmed scenes as 'Hugh Grant (I)' (qv)'s father in _Notting Hill (1999)_ (qv) but his part was removed during post production.
Part of the cast of the 1960s radio comedy "The Navy Lark".
