BIOGRAPHY: Tariq Nasheed (also know as "King Flex" or "K-Flex") was born in Detroit, Michigan July 1st. He is an author, actor and producer. He wrote the New York Times best seller The Art Of Mackin.
Tariq moved from Detroit to Birmingham, Alabama in the early 1980s in his early teens. Due to slow pace and boredom of the social scene Tariq scraped up the $125 plane ticket and decided to leave Birmingham for Los Angeles, California at age 17. He was known as an infamous hustler and street legend in the Los Angeles area during the late 90s.It has been rumored that Tariq was affiliated with the Los Angeles gang "the crips". Tariq (then known as K-Flex or King Flex) became somewhat of a mediator between rival hustlers at that time. He created certain dating techniques which were a combination of what he learned from older hustlers and from what he learned by reading psychology books. He called these techniques "G.I.C.2" (game, intelligence and common sense, squared).
Tariq became what he calls a "game advisor",and he would teach these G.I.C.2 techniques to men and women on the underground scene. In 1999, Tariq wrote a book based on his dating techniques called "The Art Of Mackin," which went on to sell over 250,000 copies. "The Art Of Mackin" laid the foundation for the modern "seduction" industry. His followup book "Play Or Be Played" (Simon & Schuster) was catered towards women trying to learn "the game". In 2005 Tariq released another book for men called "The Mack Within" (Penguin), and he appeared on TV shows such as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O'Brian, MTV, VH1, BET, etc.
Tariq now does sold out lectures and seminars around the country and he has recently released an instructional DVD called Mack Lessons.
He has another book geared towards women that will be released in 2007 called "The Art Of Golddigging."
TRIVIA:
- Usually goes to Hawaii to write his books.
- He was "discovered" (even though he was well known in the streets) by Michael Moore. Moore had a show on the Bravo network in the late 90s and hired Tariq to do some political satire material.
- He wrote another book before "The Art Of Mackin'" that was self-published. It was a book about social and media issues. (He will never re-release this book again...he is going to let it be a collectors item.) The only magazine that did a story about that book was The Source Magazine...That book sold about 100 copies...A year later, he released "The Art Of Mackin," and it went on to sell over a quarter of a million copies.
