After his role in CSI, he was offered many other roles as officers.
Tall, virile, firm-jawed American support actor who tended to play officer types and other authoritative figures on film and TV; portrayed Secretary of Defense Hutchinson in "The West Wing".
He has two daughters.
Began career on stage and appeared with various regional companies (Milwaukee Rep, Yale Rep, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Hartford Stage, New York Shakespeare Festival).
On Broadway he appeared in the original production of "I'm Not Rappaport" and in revivals of "Guys and Dolls" (as Lt. Brannigan, later Nathan Detroit) and On the Waterfront". He also appeared in the 'Kevin Spacey' (qv) revival of "The Iceman Cometh" in 1999.
