BIOGRAPHY: Stephen Bridgewater was born in Hutchinson, Kansas. He attended high school in Buhler, Kansas; a predominately Amish-Mennonite community. He attended college at Hutchinson Community College and UCLA. Bridgewater began a professional career in radio broadcasting at age 14. From age 14 until age 30, Bridgewater was the top morning Disc Jockey in Atlanta, Georgia, Knoxville and Nashville, Tennessee, along with Chicago, Illinois.
While working as a broadcaster, Bridgewater acted and wrote in many national commercials that assisted him on to the path of film and television. In 1987, he landed his first major job as a drama coach to Jeff Bridges (I) by peddling an audition tape to director Terry Gilliam.
Besides performing as an actor himself, Bridgewater has gone on to produce, write, and develop screen plays and also consults numerous producers and productions on acting and casting.
TRIVIA:
- He considers his biggest lift up the ladder of film came from director Terry Gilliam (The Fisher King, Twelve Monkeys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and The Brothers Grimm). In 1987, Bridgewater had produced and directed his own version of The Fisher King radio sequences for a UCLA directing course. In order to get the tape into Gilliam's hands, he disquised himself as a Fed-Ex delivery man and handed it to Gilliam in his hotel room. "I didn't say anything, just knocked on the door and delivered the tape. "Three days later, Terry called and I've been coaching actors ever since."
- He has served as Drama Coach to many major motion picture stars including Jeff Bridges as Jack Lucas in The Fisher King, Brad Pitt as Jeffery Goins in Twelve Monkeys, Tom Berenger as Teddy Roosevelt in Rough Riders, Robert Patrick as Agent Doggett on The X-Files, Benicio Del Toro in Traffic, and Matt Damon in The Brothers Grimm.
