Daughter of Martin and Anne Strasser. Her parents divorced when she was a baby. She began acting at the High School of Performing Arts in Manhattan, and later trained at Yale School of Drama. She is a founding member of the American Conservatory Theatre, and began her extensive daytime career in 1967. She announced in late 1999 that she will leave her Emmy-winning role of Dorian Lord on One Live to Live in January 2000, in order to devote her energies to promoting women's health issues, namely menopause awareness.

- Two sons, Nicholas (b. 1971) and Ben (b. 1975) Graduated from the High School of Performing Arts in Manhattan. Graduated from the Yale School of Drama. Late father was a radio engineer. Spokeswoman for menopause.
- Her unusual middle name "Victory in Europe" is a reference to the formal surrender of Germany in World War II, which took place on the day she was born.
- His first cousin's daughter is 'Teresa Strasser' (qv), formerly of "While You Were Out".
