- Underwent a procedure to correct a heart arrhythmia in 2006, briefly delaying the opening of 'Tom Stoppard' (qv)'s "The Coast of Utopia," in which he plays a major role.
- His close theatre association with 'Kenneth Branagh' (qv) led to work in a couple of the actor's biggest films: _Henry V (1989)_ (qv) and _Dead Again (1991)_ (qv).
- Joined the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre Company at the Palace in 1955 and worked alongside 'John Gielgud' (qv) in "Much Ado About Nothing" and as Edgar opposite Gielgud's "King Lear".
- Acted with a children's theatre group before moving, at the age of seventeen, to Ottawa to work in weekly rep.
- Won Broadway's 2001 Tony Award as Best Actor (Play) for "The Invention of Love."
- Found a decade's worth of classical work at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre where he enjoyed character star roles: Estragon in "Waiting for Godot," Prospero in "The Tempest", Antonio in "The Merchant of Venice" and the title role in "Uncle Vanya".
