TRIVIA:
- Jack Lemmon's performance in 1962's "Days of Wine and Roses" was a strong influence on Sharkey's decision to become an actor.
- His ex-companion in the 1980s was actress 'Ornella Muti' (qv). He also dated Elena Monica, daughter of comedian 'Corbett Monica' (qv) in the 1990s.
- His father, Ray, a drummer, abandoned the family when Ray was 5; he died in 1984.
- At his worst his cocaine and heroin addiction cost him $400 a day. He was also involved in four drug-related car wrecks (two required microsurgery on his eyes). He ended up dropping 40lbs. for his 5' 8" frame and is believed to have developed the AIDS virus through sharing dirty needles.
- His father, Ray, a professional drummer, abandoned the family when he was 5 years old. He later died in 1984.
- Half-Italian and half-Irish.
- Died at the Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.
- In 1987 he spent two months at an Orange County, Calif., rehabilitation center.
