When 'Grace Kelly (I)' (qv) was scanning the royal houses of Europe for a suitor for Caroline, her favorite candidate became Prince Ernst August von Hannover, whose impeccable breeding, Grace hoped, would be a stabilizing influence on her headstrong daughter. More than two decades - and two marriages - later, Caroline married him.
