A formidable Obie-winning stage player, he co-founded "The Negro Ensemble Company" in the 1960s and also took advantage of Joe Papp 's non-traditional casting of Shakespearean roles, such as "Measure for Measure," "Titus Andronicus," "Romeo and Juliet," and "Othello".
Was to play Judge Richard Farris in _"The Stand" (1994)_ (qv), but was replaced by 'Ossie Davis' (qv) when he died.
Was nominated for Broadway's 1976 Tony Award as Best Actor (Play) for "The Poison Tree."
Father of 'Justin Moses' (qv).
