- Is a senior partner in the law firm of Lane, Fahrendorf, Viloria & Oliphant LLP in Reno, Nevada.
- 2 time NCAA Welterweight Boxing Champion. Amateur record 60-4. Narrowly missed 1960 Olympic Team.
- As a referee, the last fight of his career was the infamous Tyson/Holyfield rematch. Lane's shirt was splattered with Holyfield's blood, as a result of the biting incident; soon afterward, Lane auctioned away his bloodstained shirt for many times its original cost.
- Has five children.
- [March 2002] Suffered a stroke while alone in his home in Reno, Nevada. It damaged the part of his brain that controls his speech and the right side of his body. Today, Lane can barely talk and he walks with a limp. It's a hard road for a man once known for his athleticism, quick wit and distinctive high-pitched twang.
