- Godfather of 'Christian Slater' (qv)
- He was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease in 1997.
- He and his wife, Susan, have two adopted Korean daughters.
- Excluding the original pilot episode, "The Cage" (not picked up by the network but re-worked and re-cast), Zaslov was the second person to die in the Star Trek universe, in 1998. Jeanne Bal, who played the salt-sucking creature who killed him in "The Man Trap", died in 1996. (Including "The Cage" and archival footage repeated in the two-parter, "The Menagerie", the first person to die in the Star Trek universe was Jeffrey Hunter, 'Captain Pike', in 1969; and the second was Susan Oliver, 'Vina', in 1990).
- The first victim for whom Dr. McCoy uttered the famous words, "He's dead, Jim".
- Met his second wife and widow, actress turned physical therapist Susan Hufford, when they were both in the Broadway production of "Fiddler on the Roof" in the early 1970s.
