BIOGRAPHY:

Born in Chicago in 1947, Gross was involved with a gang for a couple of years during high school before becoming a better student. He went on to be senior class president. Received an M.F.A. from the Yale University School of Drama. Worked in theater before moving to New York to begin an acting career. This eventually led to his breakthrough role on the show "Family Ties" (1982).

He has moved on to several other projects since the show's end, including three of the In the Line of Duty movies, narrating audio books, and, probably most notably, playing the character Burt in the Tremors (1990) films.

The movie _Deceived by Trust: A Moment of Truth Movie (1995)_ was based on real-life events that happened at the high school Michael Gross attended.
Won an Obie in 1982 for his role in the off-Broadway production "No End Of Blame."
Lives in California with wife Elza and his two stepchildren, Katie (born 1968) and Theo (born 1970).
During college, Michael worked in engine service for the Chicago & North Western Railway, which sparked his passion for trains. He is now part owner of Santa Fe Southern Railway.
Guest starred as a shrink on 'Michael J. Fox (I)' (qv) 's last episode of _"Spin City" (1996)_ (qv), in which there were several _"Family Ties" (1982)_ (qv) references. One memorable _"Family Ties" (1982)_ (qv) reference was when he said, "Pay Mallory on the way out.".
Both he and his younger sister 'Mary Gross' (qv) have made guest appearances on _"Boston Legal" (2004)_ (qv).
Steven Keaton, Gross's character on _"Family Ties" (1982)_ (qv), was ranked #12 in TV Guide's list of the "50 Greatest TV Dads of All Time" [20 June 2004 issue].
Graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a B.A., then went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Yale University School of Drama.
