- Trained as an actor and later dropped out of The Juilliard School in Manhattan after his second year of study to continue his run in "Big River" on Broadway.
- Attended St. Luke's United Methodist Church in his hometown of Midland, Texas.
- Sang alongside and with Barbra Streisand on her 2007 First Ever European Tour.
- He was one of only 12 Presidential Scholars in the Arts (2001).
