Lucy Punch (born 30 December 1977) is an English actress, best known for her roles in both the television show Doc Martin on ITV as receptionist Elaine Denham and for her starring role in the American programme The Class as Holly Ellenbogen, on CBS
Life and career
Born in London, Punch performed with the National Youth Theatre from 1993 to 1997, and began a course at University College London before dropping out to become an actress.
Punch made her debut in a 1998 episode of The New Adventures of Robin Hood. Her other TV credits include the naive daughter of Alison Steadman's character in the short-lived French and Saunders series, Let Them Eat Cake. In 2000, she made her stage debut as Elaine in Terry Johnson's West End adaptation of The Graduate. She has also worked at the Royal Court and Bush Theatres, both in London. She left the television show The Class after appearing in all but one of the first twelve episodes. In 2006, she won the best actress award at the Monaco International Film Festival for her performance in Are You Ready For Love?. In May 2009, it was announced that Punch had replaced Nicole Kidman in Woody Allen's You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, released in September 2010. In February 2010, it was reported that she had been cast in Jay Roach's Bad Teacher, which began shooting in March 2010. In August 2010, she appeared in BBC Two's three part police comedy-drama Vexed alongside Toby Stephens. She is also set to appear in Yellow in 2012, alongside Sienna Miller, Luke Wilson, Hank Azaria, and Ben Foster. In December 2010, it was announced that Punch had been cast in the romantic comedy The Great Mechanical Man.
