BIOGRAPHY: Has an identical twin brother, Hank, who's a self-published writer, but no other siblings. His parents, Henry and Celeste Howlin, are both retired and still reside in Ireland. Moved to Yakima, Washington in 1989, and then spent the next three years driving back and forth across the United States, living in his pick-up truck with his dog, Wendy. Moved to San Pedro, California in February 1993, and began acting full-time in Hollywood.
"Kinda retired" from acting in February 2002, shortly after appearing in Christopher Nolan's third film, "Insomnia" (he was in Nolan's second film, "Memento," as well). Spent a year traveling around the world, and then moved back "home" to Ireland in February 2003, where his production company, Holden Automotive, now keeps its home office. Continues to bounce around the globe, though, trying to make films wherever he goes.
Returned from his two-year long hiatus from acting in 2004 for Christopher Nolan's fourth film, "Batman Begins," and appeared in two independent films in 2005; before announcing he would most likely be taking 2006 and 2007 off to concentrate on his writing and directing, as well as the business side of things at Holden Automotive.
TRIVIA:
- "Larry Holden" was the name that his late, American-based uncle, Larry Howlin, took when he immigrated to the United States in the 1950s. His uncle, who was like a second father to him, died 16 November 1981, coincidentally the exact day and year that actor, William Holden died.
