Was nominated for Broadway's Tony Award three times, all as Best Actor (Featured Role - Play): in 1979 for "Spokesong"; in 1980 for "Night and Day" and in 1986 for a revival of 'Joe Orton (I)' (qv)'s "Loot". These make him the most nominated actor in that particular category.
Educated by the Christian Brothers in County Mayo, Ireland.
