TRIVIA:
- Grandfather of 'Shiloh Jolie-Pitt' (qv).
- Attended the Republican National Convention in 2008.
- Good friends with fellow actor, Eric Martic.
- Honored at fund-raiser for 'Joseph Papp' (qv) Children's Humanitarian Fund in New York City, May 2002.
- Played father to 'Rick Schroder' (qv) twice: The first time in _The Champ (1979)_ (qv) and the second time in _"Return to Lonesome Dove" (1993)_ (qv).
- Was cast as President 'Franklin Delano Roosevelt' (qv) in _Pearl Harbor (2001)_ (qv) after 'Gene Hackman' (qv) declined the role. Hackman's wife was of Japanese decent, and appearing in a film about the Japanese attack that precipitated the entry of the United States into World War Two would have been painful for her, so Hackman turned down the part.
- In 1993, he took over the role of "Woodrow F. Call" from 'Tommy Lee Jones' (qv) in _"Return to Lonesome Dove" (1993)_ (qv). Three years later, he was succeeded by 'Jonny Lee Miller' (qv), who played the younger version of Call in _"Dead Man's Walk" (1996)_ (qv). That same year, Miller married Voight's daughter, 'Angelina Jolie' (qv), making Voight a short-term father-in-law to his own successor.
- Has played a coach in two films: _Varsity Blues (1999)_ (qv) and _Glory Road (2006)_ (qv).
