J.D. was a SAG board member from 1980 - 1983 and received a certificate of appreciation from the Board when he left in 1983.
Met his wife, 'Eugenia Wright' (qv), while they were both acting students at Los Angeles City College, 1975. They did two television movies together "Pigs vs The Freaks" and "The Secret Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Hucklberry Finn" both directed by Dick Lowry
In 1983 J.D. was the first African American to ever run for S.A.G. President. He received 20% of the National vote.
