BIOGRAPHY: Jack Sheldon is the son of Jen Loven (1909-1989), who taught many of the Hollywood entertainment elite and their children to swim at her famous Jen Loven Swim School in Hollywood. Jack was known mostly for his sidekick status on the "The Merv Griffin Show" (1962) in the 70s. Jack has a large family, with two sons Kevin and John, and daughters Julie and Jesse. John, a musician, plays drums, and attended military college prep school at the prestigious Army & Navy Academy in Carlsbad, Calif. John also acted with his father in the Disney comedy Freaky Friday (1976), as one of the trouble-making kids who loved to harass Jodie Foster.
Jack is still calls the Hollywood Hills home and is active playing in jazz clubs, most often at the Catalina Bar & Grill in Hollywood. He is sometimes joined by George Segal (I).
TRIVIA:
- Also well-known as the voice of Louie the Lightning Bug.
- Jazz musician/singer/character actor, probably best known as Merv Griffin's trumpet-playing sidekick on his 1970s TV talk show and as the star of cult TV hit _"Run Buddy Run" (1966)_ (qv).
- Was the voice for I'm Just A Bill and as the train engineer for Conjunction Junction, perhaps the most famous and beloved installment of the educational _"Schoolhouse Rock!" (1973)_ (qv), a commercial-length cartoon series on Saturday mornings in the 1970s.
- Was a friend of legendary satirist 'Lenny Bruce' (qv).
