Both his mother and wife were Australian.
Son of John Hutton Gibson and wife Eva Mylott, a Opera Singer (born in Tuross Head, New South Wales, Australia, in 1875 and died in New Jersey, 1920), married in New York in 1917, who in turn was the daughter of Patrick Mylott, an importer of wine and spirits born in Ireland, and his wife Mary Heffernan (daughter of Edmund Heffernan and his wife Honora).
Father of 'Mel Gibson (I)' (qv) and 'Donal Gibson' (qv). Has a total of 11 children.
