BIOGRAPHY: Hiram Sherman was primarily a Broadway actor who also appeared in a few films and some television with a co-starring role on The Tammy Grimes Show. Although ten episodes were filmed only four were aired before cancellation. Born in Boston, Mass. where his father Clifford L. Sherman(1875-1920) was on the staff of the Boston Globe as a noted cartoonist, Hiram and family came back to Lincoln, Illinois where he went to high school and entered showbuisness at the Goodman Theater in Chicago in 1927. He was a member of Orson Welles Mercury theater project but left Welles before the famous "War of the Worlds" broadcast. His first winter in Manhattan was in 1930 and he became a New York stage personality from that time. A veteran of the navy(1941-1945) he won two Toni awards;first in 1953 and in 1967.He retired to Illinois where he died in 1989 in a Springfield nursing home.
TRIVIA:
- Won two Tony Awards as Best Supporting or Featured Actor (Musical): in 1953 for "Two's Company" and in 1968 for "How Now, Dow Jones."
