Once expressed surprise at how her career has turned out. She tends to be cast as well-spoken, middle-class women even though she is initially from Essex. She puts it down to her LAMDA training and her name, Hermione.
Husband, 'Simon Wheeler (I)' (qv), is head of Development at TV Production company Coastal.
One of her chief annoyances used to be that people never knew how to pronounce her first name. She expressed relief when the first Harry Potter film was released as she hoped people might start getting her name right as the female child lead was is also called Hermione.
Named Hermione by her father after Helen of Troy's daughter.
Has two children with 'Simon Wheeler (I)' (qv): a son Wilf (born June 2004) and a daughter Hero (born August 2007). Hero is named after the character in Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing".
Her father died when she was 21.
Initially trained as a dancer.
Parents split up when she was four, and was brought up in Berkshire by her mother with three sisters and two half-sisters.
