Though the spelling is exactly the same, her stage name bears no connection to screen legend 'Hedy Lamarr' (qv).
Auditioned for the role of Dorothy Wheeler in _Valentine (2001)_ (qv), but the role eventually went to 'Jessica Capshaw' (qv). However, director 'Jamie Blanks' (qv) still wanted Hedy in the film. In a meeting, they looked at each other, and both said "Ruthie".
"Hedy" is a corruption of "Heather" by her kid brother.
