Has three daughters: Alisabeth (b. 1968), Kathryne (b. 10-02-1971), and Alexandra (b. 1985).
Starred in cop show "The Rookies," then went on to direct episodes of cop show "Hill Street Blues".
He was nominated for an Emmy for his work as Tom Harvey in the mini-series _"Roots" (1977)_ (qv), but that year the academy decided to change the amount of nominees from 5 to 6 and his nomination was revoked.
