Her grandfather wrote for the musical stage in England, and her father was a child actor there. Eventually Gabrielle returned to England herself to study acting.
Gained 15 pounds for her role in _The Sweet Hereafter (1997)_ (qv).
Frequently appears in the films of director 'Atom Egoyan' (qv).
She has portrayed a large number of real-life characters, including Elizabeth I, Mary Stuart, and Hitler's favorite photographer, Leni Riefenstahl.
