Is a big fan of 'Henrik Ibsen' (qv) and in the 1990s he starred in his own staging of Ibsen's "The Master Builder" off-Broadway.
Has spent a lot of his spare time in Norway where he has also acted since the 1950s. In the 1990s he also starred in a Norwegian sit-com.
He was cast as the father of Bill Cosby on "The Cosby Show" even though he is only 9 years his senior.
