- Novello's sister-in-law is former Surgeon General Dr. Antonia Novello.
- His brother Joe Novello is a Psychologist in Washington, DC, who is married to the former Surgeon General Dr. Antonia Novello.
- As of November 2006, he has appeared in at least 18 movies, TV shows and TV specials as his signature character, Father Guido Sarducci.
- He once visited the Vatican in his costume for his character "Father Guido Sarducci" and was arrested by the Swiss Guards for "impersonating a priest" after he took several photographs in an area where photography is prohibited. The charges were later dropped, but the incident made news around the world. Novello later joked about the affair, suggesting that he might go to Utah and see if he could be arrested for impersonating a member of the Osmond family.
