Her "Wings" character of Helen, the cello-playing lunch counter waitress at the airport, was supposed to have been of Greek descent and played by actress 'Peri Gilpin' (qv) of "Frazier" fame. Gilpin had to decline the part and it was eventually rewritten as a Texas girl to fit the talents of Crystal.
