BIOGRAPHY:

Christian Michael Leonard Slater was born on August 18, 1969 in New York to Michael Hawkins (II), a well-known soap actor and Mary Jo Slater, a casting agent. Christian started in show business early, appearing on the soap opera "The Edge of Night" (1956) in 1976 at the age of 7. He went on to star in many Broadway shows in the early-1980s.

He rose to fame in Hollywood after landing the role of Binx Davey in The Legend of Billie Jean (1985). He moved to Los Angeles in 1987 to pursue a further acting career after dropping out of high school. After having a starring role in the cult hit Heathers (1988), he became somewhat known as the Hollywood bad-boy, having many run-ins with the law. He is also well-known for having dated stars such as Winona Ryder, Christina Applegate, Samantha Mathis and was at one time engaged to actress/model Nina Huang.

In 2000, he married Ryan Haddon, the daughter of 70s model Dayle Haddon. The couple have two children, Jaden Christopher (b. 1999) and Eliana Sophia (b. 2001). As of early 2005 they separated and later divorced, but remain dedicated to bring up their children.

TRIVIA:

He was arrested at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport in December 1994 and charged with criminal possession of a weapon (the actor had packed a handgun). Slater reached a plea agreement in early 1995 that required him to spend three days working with homeless children.
Was listed as a potential nominee on the 2006 Razzie Award nominating ballot. He was a suggestion in the Worst Actor category for his performances in _Alone in the Dark (2005)_ (qv) and _Mindhunters (2004)_ (qv). He failed to receive a nomination, however (had he gotten the nomination, it would have been his first in 14 years. He was previously nominated for Worst Supporting Actor at the 1992 Razzie Awards for his roles in _Mobsters (1991)_ (qv) and _Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991)_ (qv)).
His mother, 'Mary Jo Slater' (qv) was the casting director in 4 of his feature film appearances: _Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991)_ (qv); _Murder in the First (1995)_ (qv); _The Contender (2000)_ (qv) and _Who Is Cletis Tout? (2001)_ (qv).
Past girlfriends include 'Kim Walker (I)' (qv), whom he broke up with during the filming of _Heathers (1988)_ (qv) for 'Winona Ryder' (qv), later 'Samantha Mathis' (qv), 'Christina Applegate' (qv) and 'Patricia Arquette' (qv). Has also been engaged to actress/model 'Nina Huang' (qv).
His godfather was the late soap actor 'Michael Zaslow' (qv).
He has co-starred with each of the two leads of _Face/Off (1997)_ (qv), 'John Travolta' (qv) and 'Nicolas Cage' (qv), in _Broken Arrow (1996)_ (qv) and _Windtalkers (2002)_ (qv), respectively. All three films were directed by 'John Woo' (I).
Won the roles of the Interviewer in _Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles (1994)_ (qv) and Eric Draven in _The Crow (1994)_ (qv) after the death of friend and fellow actor 'River Phoenix' (qv) (who had been cast in the first role and turned down the second). Slater also turned down the lead in _The Crow (1994)_ (qv), leading producers to actor 'Brandon Lee (I)' (qv) - who would become permanently linked with the film and its story when he was accidentally killed on the set.
