Formerly a print journalist who was a columnist for The San Francisco Chronicle.
His wife, 'Kathleen Matthews' (qv), was a news anchor with WJLA-TV, the Washington, DC ABC affiliate. They have three children: Michael, Thomas, and Caroline.
His brothers are Herb, Jim, Charlie and Bruce.
