BIOGRAPHY:

Born as Caroline Caplan, Catz began acting in the early 1990s, initially playing minor roles. On registering with Equity, she discovered that an actress with the name Caroline Caplan was already registered, thus she had to choose a different professional name.
In 1994 she took a lead role in the BBC's All Quiet on the Preston Front, which ran for three series. She followed this with a spell in The Bill as Rosie Fox, during which she met Michael Higgs, who later became her husband. Her part in The Bill was the first of a series of three long-term roles in which she played police officers - The Vice had her demoted back to PC, whilst in Murder in Suburbia she was a Detective Inspector. She is currently starring in ITV1's Doc Martin, where she plays primary school headmistress Louisa Glasson. The fourth series of the show began airing on the 20th September 2009.
As well as her long-term roles, Catz has continued to appear in one-off roles, including In Denial of Murder, in which she played real-life murder victim Wendy Sewell, and an episode of Hotel Babylon. She also appeared in a two-part episode of Single Handed entitled The Stolen Child as Dr Maggie Hunter. Originally shown in Ireland in January 2008, it was broadcast by ITV on 9 August 2009.
In November 2008, she played Anna, the puppet maker in the stage production On Emotion.
She co-starred in "Déjà-Vu", a radio play broadcast by BBC Radio 4 on Wednesday, 4 February 2009 at 2.15-3.00pm.
She has appeared on The New Paul O'Grady show as a guest.

Music
Prior to her acting career, Catz sang in an indie band called Monoland, and then a folk group called Sapphire.[citation needed]
In March 2008 she guested with East Kilbride rock combo The Jesus and Mary Chain for a folk rendition of their song 'Just Like Honey'.

Personal life
Catz is married to fellow actor Michael Higgs; the couple met on the set of The Bill. They have a son, Sonny and a daughter, Honour.

TRIVIA:
  • Plays in a folk band called Sapphire.
  • She changed her birth surname from Caplan to Catz as there was already an actress with that name. She came up with the last name after seeing a doodle of a cat but ironically she is extremely allergic to cats.
  • She has a son Sonny (born 2001) and a daughter Honour (born 2006), with actor husband 'Michael Higgs (II)' (qv). They met on the set of the TV programme _"The Bill" (1984)_ (qv).
